EMHC Adopts Planetree Model of Care
The new campus will feature the Planetree model of care. This approach focuses on the physical, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of healing and encourages patients to become actively involved in their healing. Planetree is a nonprofit organization that works with hospitals and healthcare facilities to develop and implement healing environments that go beyond traditional care.
EMHC President/CEO Leo Fronza summed it up best when he said; "Planetree's model fits perfectly with our own vision of placing patients at the center of all we do. This is an excellent opportunity for us to implement an approach to care that provides a better patient experience."
The 10 key principals of the Planetree philosophy:
- Healing partnerships with family members and caregivers enable patients to be active participants in their own care
- Architectural and interior design allow for solitude and social space, creating an environment that’s conducive to health and healing
- The importance of nutrition and the nurturing aspects of food are both recognized
- Empowering patients and their families through education and information
- The involvement of family, friends and significant others is encouraged whenever possible
- Spirituality — the importance of inner resources is emphasized
- The importance of human touch in relieving stress and promoting healing
- Healing arts — using art, music and storytelling as nutrition for the soul
- Complementary and alternative therapies offer holistic healing
- Healing communities — involving the larger community in health and wellness
