ELMHURST – ELMCARE, the Elmhurst Physician Hospital Organization, received nine out of 10 blue stars in the 2011 Blue Star Report, which recognizes HMO contracting medical groups that have documented high levels of performance in providing patient care.
The Blue Star Report is an annual assessment conducted by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois and is based upon national clinical practice and preventive care guidelines. Groups earn a blue star for meeting or exceeding the target care goal in each of the reporting categories, which include asthma, diabetes, breast cancer screening, childhood immunizations, mental health follow-up, influenza vaccinations, controlling high blood pressure, colorectal cancer screening, management of cardiovascular conditions, cervical cancer screening and patient safety.
ELMCARE achieved nine of a possible 10 stars for quality, placing it among 35 percent of the medical groups to earn between eight and nine blue stars. Only 7 percent of the 95 groups included in the report received all 10 blue stars.
“These recognitions are a reflection of our dedication to providing the best medical care available for today’s healthcare consumer,” said Wayne Aardsma, executive director of ELMCARE and vice president of Managed Care at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. “We take great pride in these achievements but the true beneficiaries are our members, who have the peace of mind of knowing they have access to high-quality care.”
ELMCARE, the Elmhurst Physician Hospital Organization, was established in 1995 to offer integrated healthcare services to the Western suburbs of Chicago.
