ELMHURST – Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) has been named one of the top five most beautiful hospitals in America. EMH earned recognition in the fourth annual 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in America contest conducted by Soliant Health, a leading specialty healthcare staffing provider.
After receiving more than 300 nominations from across the country, a panel of experts reviewed each hospital and picked the top 50 entries based on measures such as architectural style, photogenic properties, landscaping and distinctiveness. A public voting process then took place to determine the top 20 hospitals in the country for 2012.
This year’s 50 nominations include facilities across the United States with impressive features such as meditation trails, two-story waterfalls, healing gardens, reflection rooms, and even spas where visitors can enjoy tranquil and relaxing amenities, such as massages, a sauna, and yoga lessons.
Designed to be one of the premier hospital facilities in the Midwest, the 866,000-square-foot EMH opened its doors to patients in June 2011. Using classic Prairie-style architecture, the Hospital incorporates an earth-tone color palette, warm wood fixtures, natural lighting and campus gardens to create a healing environment that transcends the typical hospital experience.
Each of the facility’s 259 private inpatient suites includes soothing colors, natural wood, stone and fabrics, cheerful tile accents and images of nature. Surrounded by expansive green space, sparking ponds and healing gardens, the extensive landscaping creates a “building in a garden” that sets the tone for a unique healthcare experience.
