Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare recognizes outstanding physician, board member

ELMHURST – Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare (EMHC) recently held its annual Leadership Awards Dinner at the Hotel Arista in Naperville. This event, which took place on April 28, honors physicians and board members who have displayed exemplary leadership qualities during the past year, and includes the presentation of the Medical Staff Distinguished Service Award and the Robert E. Soukup Award for Leadership.
The recipient of this year’s Medical Staff Distinguished Service Award was Elmhurst’s own Larry Barr, M.D. Dr. Barr is a highly respected cardiologist with Midwest Heart Specialists and on staff at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH). Dr. Barr has held a number of leadership positions at throughout his more than 20 years with the Hospital, including President of the Medical Staff. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee, which focuses on enhancing the quality of care at EMH.
“Larry is a true leader who is committed to making a difference,” said Charles Giger, M.D, President of the EMH Medical Staff. “Larry is devoted to enhancing the care we provide and is very passionate about everything that he does.”
The Robert E. Soukup Award for Leadership was presented to Kenneth Wegner of Elmhurst. Wegner has been an active leader at EMHC and is known for his dedication and commitment to giving back, not just to the hospital but to the community. Wegner is Chairman of the EMH Foundation and a member of the EMH Board of Trustees.
“Ken is a born leader, a focused businessman and an extremely dedicated family man,” said W. Peter Daniels, EMHC President & CEO. “I know him as a soft-spoken, but extraordinarily articulate and generous person that we are fortunate to have as a leader in the organization.”
