Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Receives Outstanding Achievement Award
ELMHURST – Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare (EMHC) is pleased to announce that it has been honored by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) with the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA). EMHC was one of only 79 accredited cancer programs nationwide that met the standards and qualifications to win this highly respected award.
Established in 2004, the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. EMHC received the OAA following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which EMHC demonstrated a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program and also received a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards.
The purpose of the award is to raise the bar on quality cancer care, with the ultimate goal of increasing awareness about quality care choices among cancer patients and their loved ones. In addition, the award is intended to:
- Recognize cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.
- Motivate other cancer programs to work toward improving their level of care.
- Facilitate dialogue between award recipients and health care professionals at other cancer facilities for the purpose of sharing best practices.
- Encourage honorees, like EMHC, to serve as quality-care resources to other cancer programs.
“We applaud the commitment of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare’s oncology staff for working together to meet and exceed the high standards set forth by the Commission on Cancer,” said Jean Lydon, R.N., associate vice president of Patient Care Services and director of Oncology Services for Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. “We take great pride in our cancer programs and are honored to be recognized for all our hard work and commitment to providing the highest level of care to our patients.”
In keeping with its promise to provide state-of-the-art care, EMHC will open its doors to the new Elmhurst Memorial Center for Cancer Care this fall. Located at its Main Campus, the 32,000 square feet Center will feature treatment rooms, medical offices and comfortable spaces for patients and visitors.
“What we’re really trying to do is create the best patient experience we can and provide our patients with more choices,” notes Lydon. “In one centralized location, patients can get lab work, see their physicians, and undergo therapy – all in one day.”
