Medicines
If you are planning to have surgery at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, please review these guidelines regarding medicines.
Should I stop taking any medicines?
All herbal medications, such as Gingko Biloba and diet medications, should be discontinued for two weeks before your surgery.
All aspirin products, Ibuprofen products and Naproxyn products should be discontinued for one week before your surgery.
Do not stop taking any medications that your physician has prescribed unless you are instructed to do so by your physician.
Can I take my usual morning medicines on the day of surgery?
When you come to the Hospital for your pre-surgery testing, the nurse will give you written instructions about your medications. If you have any questions, you may call the Ambulatory Surgery department to speak with a nurse at 630-993-5106.
What about my insulin?
Follow the instructions provided by your physician. If no instructions have been given, the pre-admission nurse will instruct you to bring your insulin with you to the Hospital. We will test your blood sugar and contact your surgeon or anesthesiologist to determine how much insulin to give you.
