Breast Care Team
At Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, we believe that multidisciplinary care is important to successful treatment, which is why you and your loved ones are guided through an individualized journey every step of the way.
Throughout your course of care, you’ll meet with several oncology specialists, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, breast surgeons, breast imagers, pathologists, geneticists, plastic/reconstructive surgeons and nurses who are nationally certified by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation — all of whom are committed to providing you with the best breast care. The team meets weekly to discuss new breast cancer patients and to develop a comprehensive and customized treatment plan designed just for you.
A breast nurse navigator guides you through your journey from the first biopsy long into survivorship, and makes sure that your care is coordinated and all your needs are met.
Certified lymphedema specialists are also available to help women manage this condition where excess fluid collects in tissues causing swelling.
Additionally, our team includes a nutritionist and a psychosocial navigator, who can connect you with support and community resources. Chaplains and social workers provide spiritual and emotional support.
Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare also partners with American Cancer Society programs to make sure that all your needs are met. Reach to Recovery offers advice and encouragement from cancer survivors. The Look Good Feel Better program teaches women beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image after surgery and treatment. We also partner with the Wellness House in Hinsdale, which provides a broad range of services to cancer patients and their families.
Christina Morrissey Hinsdale
“Staying on top of lymphedema is crucial. After surgery, you just want to move on with life. So you don’t want annoying side effects to interfere with you while you’re recovering.”
