Screening Mammogram

Screening mammograms are also known as routine mammograms for women without symptoms of breast health issues. The American Cancer Society recommends that women 40 years and older have an annual screening mammogram to improve the early detection of breast cancer. A screening mammogram is an x-ray of the breast taken from two different angles, and is used to look for breast disease in women with no current breast related complaints. A Radiologist reads this exam looking for any changes in your breast tissue since your prior exams. These results are reported within 24 hours. If any changes are detected the Radiologist may ask that you return for additional images to look at areas of change more clearly.

Screening Plus Program

At EMHC we understand that being called back for additional views can be very anxiety provoking. That is why we offer our Screening Plus Program. This service provides qualified patients the opportunity to schedule a screening mammogram, have any additional imaging performed on the same day, and leave our department with their breast imaging results in hand.

Qualified patients are offered this service at the time of mammography scheduling, or upon request. An order from your physician is required prior to scheduling.

Patients must meet the following criteria:

  • Screening mammogram only
  • No current breast related complaints
  • Non-baseline exams
  • All prior breast imaging records must be on file at the time of scheduling
  • Commit to an extended appointment time of 2 hours to accommodate any additional imaging if necessary

To schedule your mammogram, call us at (331) 221-6036.

“I wasn’t diligent in getting my mammograms done. I probably had the lump a year and a half and didn’t know it. I’m extremely lucky.”
