Breast Care Team Provides Leading-Edge Care
A team of cancer specialists works closely with your surgeon and primary care physician to develop an individualized treatment plan. They regularly follow your progress to make sure the plan is working best for you. This team includes medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, clinical nurse specialists and the Breast Health Center coordinator.
Nurses certified in cancer care administer and monitor your treatment to minimize side effects and maximize your comfort. They also provide educational support for questions you may have during your treatment.
Many patients choose to remain at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital through the course of their treatment. Here, they receive state-of-the-art therapies and care close to home. We offer the latest techniques in breast disease detection including screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasound and MRI. Minimally invasive diagnostic procedures, including fine needle aspiration and sentinel lymph node biopsy, help to minimize discomfort and reduce the number of procedures required.
When it comes to diagnostic testing, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital’s Reference Laboratory is in the lead among Chicago area community hospitals. Specially trained pathologists carefully analyze breast tissue specimens and send a diagnosis to your physician within 24 hours. More than 250 hospitals, physician offices and institutions in 16 states rely on our laboratory for the right results. The Reference Laboratory is also affiliated with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, giving our staff access to the Clinic’s 850 physicians and scientists should they need additional diagnostic experience in interpreting borderline test results.
