Cancer Center:CyberKnife Center of Chicago
CyberKnife Center of Chicago, which is housed within the Cancer Center at the Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Berteau Campus, offers a revolutionary new process for treating harmful tumors that does not require an invasive procedure or anesthesia and lets you go home immediately.
Using image-guidance technology and computer-controlled robotics, the CyberKnife system tracks and destroys tumors in the body while accounting for changes in location due to breathing and normal internal movements. An alternative to, or complement for, traditional radiation therapy, the machine has the ability to deliver precise beams of high-dose radiation to a wide range of locations, including those in the brain, spine, lung, liver, pancreas and prostate.
CyberKnife Center of Chicago is home to the first new generation CyberKnife in use in the area. It features a higher energy source than previous machines, which allows for enhanced calculations of radiation doses and planning, as well as a device that controls the size of the radiation beam, providing reduced treatment time and greater protection of normal tissue.
