Cancer Center:Infusion Therapy
What exactly is infusion therapy? Quite simply, it’s when a person receives medication through an IV. Infusion therapy is given for many different diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, multiple sclerosis, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal disorders, immune disorders, growth hormone deficiencies and neurological problems.
At one time, infusion therapy was limited to the hospital setting. Today, many patients go to alternate settings, such as an ambulatory site or an ambulatory care facility to complete their infusion therapy. Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare offers both in-hospital infusion therapy, as well as several conveniently located outpatient sites.
What should you expect if you find yourself or a family member in this situation? If you work with Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Infusion Therapy Services, you’ll have an integrated, caring team including your physician, chemotherapy-certified registered nurses, nurse clinicians, pharmacists and a physician medical director.
