Cardiovascular Services
Symptoms of heart disease are often dismissed as other less-threatening conditions, such as indigestion, sore muscles or poor circulation. In reality, these symptoms could be alerting you to a more serious condition. That is why it is best to consult your physician — especially if you have a family history of heart disease. If you need specialized care, we are a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of heart and vascular disease. One of the largest cardiovascular programs in the area, we were among the first to bring advanced clinical management protocols and minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment tools to DuPage County.
We also remain on the cutting edge of the latest treatment options. Following FDA approval of a revolutionary new treatment for atrial fibrillation, the procedure was performed for the first time in Illinois right here at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Apoor Gami, M.D., was among the first in the country to use new cryoballoon technology to treat atrial fibrillation, which is the most prevalent heart rhythm disorder in the country. Dr. Gami talked about the minimally invasive procedure on the NBC Chicago News with Dr. Mary Ann Malloy. Click here to view the segment.
Our interdisciplinary team includes cardiac nurses, interventional radiologists, clinical support staff plus more than 50 cardiologists and seven cardiovascular surgeons. Each year, we perform more than 200 open heart surgeries and 250 peripheral vascular surgeries.
Some of the conditions we provide treatment for include:

Strong collaboration between cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons at EMH means that comprehensive care is available in a community hospital setting. As evidence, our median door-to-balloon time (the time between patient arrival at the hospital and the start of artery-opening treatment) is 56 minutes, well below the national benchmark of 90 minutes.
Elmhurst Memorial Hospital is Joint Commission-certified for Acute Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Stroke (Primary Stroke Center) and Inpatient Diabetes.
