Cardiac Departments and Facilities

 

Cardiovascular Observation Unit

This unit is designed to care for outpatients who are expected to have a short stay due to cardiovascular disease but need specific, vital monitoring by our expert physicians and staff.

Intermediate Care Unit

This unit is designed to provide care to patients who require an intensity of nursing care rather than intensive therapies or treatments.

Outpatient Heart Failure Center

This unit has eight treatment spaces designed to individually care for outpatients with heart failure. Physicians and staff strive to reduce hospital admissions and improve the quality of life for patients. The program consists of intermittent, intravenous, inotropic therapy combined with nursing assessments and education provided by specially trained nurses.

Inpatient Telemetry Unit

This unit focuses on caring for patients with cardiovascular disease or those who have had invasive cardiac and vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures, chest pain, coronary artery bypass grafts, arrhythmia, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disorders.

Cardiac Care Unit

Four of the 26 beds in this unit are dedicated to post open-heart surgical patients. The open-heart area focuses on stabilizing cardiovascular patients. The remaining beds are used for medical and surgical critical care patients.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after a cardiac event is key to your recovery. Our program includes four phases of cardiac rehabilitation. Phases I and II are provided at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Phase III and the Stay-Fit Program are provided at the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health. Our cardiac rehabilitation services include:

  • Biofeedback
  • Exercise classes
  • Nutritional support/education
  • Patient/family education and support groups
  • Social service support
  • Stress management
