Home Safety and Pre-Surgical Assessments
Most homes have common safety issues that can be easily overlooked by the resident because it’s a familiar environment. Home safety assessments and pre-surgical joint replacement visits bring trained professionals to a customer’s home to help identify and recommend ways to eliminate hazards. Each assessment provides a unique and individualized experience for the customer based on his/her needs and living environment.
During both the home safety assessment and pre-surgical joint replacement visit, a list of suggested community resources is provided to the customer to help with their identified needs, such as maintenance, repairs or services. Home Safety Assessment
During a home safety assessment, an Elmhurst Memorial Home Health physical or occupational therapist visits the customer’s home or the home of their loved one to walk through and explain potential hazards. This assessment can be purchased by anyone.
Pre-Surgical Joint Replacement Visits
Patients planning to undergo hip or knee replacement surgery can reduce their fears and anxiety by receiving one-on-one education in their home from a physical therapist who helps them prepare for surgery and make plans for post-operative care. Beyond ensuring home safety, the pre-surgical joint replacement visit identifies many other issues, including medical equipment needs and post-operative exercises to speed recovery. A physician’s order or referral is required to purchase this assessment because it includes a patient assessment in addition to an assessment of the home environment before surgery.
