Orthopedics:Orthopedics Care Team
A registered nurse and a patient care technician are partnered to care for you. The registered nurse assesses, plans and evaluates your care and progress, while the patient care technician provides assistance with the important basic activities of daily care under the close supervision of his/her registered nurse partner.
The clinical specialist focuses on the educational needs of both the nursing staff and patients. Education is key in the role of improving patient outcomes. Working with our Education department and clinical specialists from other specialties, the orthopedic clinical specialist also is involved in establishing organizational policy and procedure for the delivery of excellent nursing care, investigating clinical problems and utilizing a research-based approach to improve patient care.
The orthopedic program manager assumes a 24-hour responsibility and accountability for delivery of quality patient care, personnel management and administration of the orthopedic unit. In addition, the orthopedic program manager oversees the case management team. Case management refers to the coordination of patient information and activities among a broad-based team of healthcare providers, including the primary physician, consulting physician(s), nursing staff, pharmacist, social worker, physical therapist, etc. To ensure excellent coordinated care, patients are assigned a case manager who keeps them informed regarding their plan of care, provides information to their insurance company as needed and communicates directly with their physician.
Each of the care team members meets regularly to plan and assess patients’ progress.
