Frequently Asked Questions

I think I have a sleep condition. What should I do?

If you are having trouble sleeping and think you may have a sleep condition, contact your primary care physician first and discuss your symptoms. Together, you can decide if a sleep study is necessary.

What happens during a sleep study?

During the non-invasive test, you will spend the night at the Elmhurst Memorial Sleep Center to have your sleep stages, breathing pattern, sounds, body movements, heart activity and oxygen in your blood monitored.

Do I need a referral from a physician to have a sleep study performed?

Yes. It is suggested that patients speak with their physician before scheduling an appointment for a sleep study.

Will a sleep study be covered by my insurance?

Insurance plans vary, but sleep studies are typically covered by most insurance plans. Contact your insurance provider for information regarding your specific coverage.

What types of treatment are available for sleep conditions?

Common treatments may include simple changes in daily habits, weight reduction, stress management, medications or surgery. Your physician may also suggest the use of a non-invasive device to relieve upper airway obstruction for sleep apnea. Once a diagnosis has been made, your physician can discuss with you the most appropriate treatment plan for your condition.

Who will help me after I have been diagnosed with a sleep condition?

A board certified sleep physician will review the results of your sleep study and forward the findings and recommendations to your physician.
